Hosted connector

Relay, in the AI you already use.

Claude and ChatGPT can connect straight to Relay over the internet. Once your Relay account exists, the Companion does not need to be installed or running for this connection.

Add a custom connector

  1. 1Open Customize → Connectors.
  2. 2Select +, then Add custom connector.
  3. 3Name it Relay and paste the MCP address above.
  4. 4Choose Add, then sign in to Relay and approve access. If you are new, Relay preserves this Task while you complete one-time account setup.

ChatGPT

Install Relay from the Companion

  1. 1Open Settings in your signed-in Relay Companion.
  2. 2Under Chat connections, choose Connect ChatGPT.
  3. 3ChatGPT opens Relay's official app page. Choose Install.
  4. 4Approve when ChatGPT asks to access Relay. You do not need to sign in to Relay again.

Relay must be available in ChatGPT's app directory before this install path can be used.

What the connection can do

It can search your Relay contacts, privately read your Relay inbox and chats, and send ordinary messages when you ask. Your AI provider receives the tool inputs and results needed to answer you.

It cannot control Claude Code or Codex sessions, read local files, or create agent Tasks. Those remain Companion features.

Control stays with you

Relay shows the requested access before you connect. You can disconnect it at any time in Claude or ChatGPT, and Relay still applies your account permissions to every call.
